What to do in KCMO in the Spring

The winter is finally over! Celebrate by getting out of the apartment and exploring Kansas City!

This winter was brutal. Just when we got rid of the eight inches of snow we got two more inches of ice! While anything could still happen, it seems like it’s finally warming up and staying warmer. Get outside and enjoy the Kansas City springtime with one of these activities!

Explore the Outdoors

Kansas City and the surrounding area have some fantastic parks to explore and get some fresh air. From the botanical garden of Powell Gardens to the 1,805-acre Swope Park, even if you live downtown you don’t have to go too far out of your way to enjoy nature. At Powell Gardens the hours and offerings vary based on season, and March 1 is the season opener after being closed in January and February. Considered the crown jewel of the KC Parks system, Swope Park hosts more than 2 million visitors per year.

St. Patrick’s Day

If you’ve lived in Kansas City for long you know we love a good excuse to party! St. Patrick’s Day is no exception, with an annual parade and activities for all ages around the city. You can also check out Browne’s Irish Market to get decked out in green (visit any time of the year for some fantastic Irish food, drink, and other wares) then head to one (or several) of the many Irish bars in the city to continue the festivities.

Sports

If nature isn’t really your thing but you still want to get outside, check out the KC sports teams that play in the spring! The Royals start their season in late March or early April each year (this year opening at home against the White Sox on March 28) and you can purchase single-game tickets or save some money with various plans. Don’t miss out on Sporting KC this season either. Kansas City’s own soccer league starts its home season this year on March 10.

Restaurants

Kansas City has tons of great restaurants and bars, many of which have outdoor patios to enjoy the warmer weather with friends. Some of our favorites are Brewery Emperial with its restaurant and beer garden, Café Trio with its huge deck and patio, and Cinder Block Brewery that has outdoor space and is a part of the Apex on Quality Hill Neighborhood Passport program that offers discounts to our residents
